I’ve Been Admitted to College (IBAC)

November 16th-20th, 11am-11:45am each day

Thank you for joining us for IBAC Week this year! We hope you had a great experience! If you missed IBAC Week, you can still access the event sessions using this link.

A Special Event for Local Youth!

I've Been Admitted to College (IBAC) was the vision of local educators and tribal leaders. They wanted to ensure that every 8th grader in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties had an opportunity to go to college. They wanted students to recognize the value of a high school graduation and the importance of attending college! They knew if 8th graders visited Humboldt State, they would be able to visualize themselves here - and, today we have continued this tradition. This year, IBAC has gone virtual to accommodate local and state mandates on social gatherings due to COVID-19 and the students who participate span Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity and Mendocino Counties.

I’ve Been Admitted to College is provided in partnership with the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) and will be a week-long virtual experience this year. Throughout IBAC Week, students will have the opportunity to learn about some of the great resources that HSU has to offer. At the end of the week, 8th graders will be sent an Admissions Promise Certificate with their name on it. This is our promise to you: as long as you complete your A-G requirements in high school, you will be accepted to HSU!

Challenges

Throughout these presentations and activities, 8th graders will have the opportunity to "Locate Lucky," our campus mascot. Lucky is hidden throughout the event experience, and students can submit a form at the end of each day to let us know where they catch a glimpse of him. A “Locate Lucky” winner will be chosen each day of IBAC and sent a care package from HSU.

We’re also hosting a sticker contest! Students can submit a sticker design around the theme of “how can college help me reach my dreams.” Designs must be submitted via email to Molly Pucillo at molly.pucillo@humboldt.edu by Thursday, November 12th, 2020 at 11:59pm. Submitted and approved designs will be highlighted in a Google form, where students can vote for their favorite design Monday–Thursday of IBAC Week. The winner will be announced on Friday, November 20, 2020 and will be sent a care package from HSU. In addition to the Admissions Promise Certificate and a brochure designed just for students and their families, all  8th grade participants will receive the winning sticker!
